Adding inflammation to injury

The need to become more aware how the body (mine in particular) heals came from 2 recent injuries. A knee and a shoulder.

Head and toes to follow lol.

These type of injuries are considered acute inflammation because the inflammation shows up in response to a specific trauma event but then goes away when it’s work is done. Chronic inflammation hangs around and can be very debilitating and dangerous.

Just a quick shout out to chiropractors. If you get a good one…

What is inflammation?

The heat and the redness that happens when we get injured is our body’s response to an attack on its territory. The inflammation army (inflammatory markers) show up and secure the area sweeping for any/all invaders and eliminating them.

We’ve all seen inflammation in action in our lives. We skin our knee, the area around gets red and we go from scab to new skin. If everything’s working the way it should.

We don’t ever prompt our body to do this. It just knows.

We never even think about it. Our bodies are the single greatest operating system going.

Inflammation shows up the same for these intruders, working on the inside:

  • Toxins
  • Virus
  • Bacteria

How can I help heal myself?

In an effort to help speed up the healing process I needed to learn more about about how to support my little inner warriors.

I was ordered by my chiropractor to abstain from alcohol (✅) do some physio, ice the area and take an anti inflammatory like aleve.

The instant joy I experienced with freedom from pain when taking the Aleve pill was…terrifying.

I hate pills. I can see how so many people end up relying so heavily on them.

There must be another way.

Of course there’s another way I just didn’t know it yet.

Pills only deal with the surface issue – pain. Finding the root cause is where the true freedom lies.

The root cause had already been determined by my chiropractor. My shoulder pain was actually from my rib (tendon?).

Not a doctor. Didn’t catch what the damaged thing was. It was weird. This shoulder pain was actually from my 3rd rib.

Very random. But ok.

I hit the ground running. Foods for inflammation, the good, the bad and yup informational overload.

Meet my little friend turmeric

A friend posted a recipe for golden milk and it was all I needed to remember my nutritional food roots and the benefits of turmeric.

I’m surprised the government hasn’t outlawed turmeric. They like to restrict ….oh no, I won’t go down that road. Not today.

It just so happened to be farmers market Saturday here in Baja and I lucked out finding an organic pre mixed golden milk powder right then and there.

There’s a lot of holistic, organic, whole foods minded people here in Mexico so I’m not completely floored that it was available. I absolutely love that it is.

And the results are…

How does this story end? It doesn’t it’s just beginning!

I’ve noticed the pain relief benefits of the turmeric along with deeper undisturbed sleep.

Chia seeds are not a part of this particular love story but I have been including them as part of my healing process.

Chia Pudding Recipe
  • 150 ml of coconut milk
  • 2 tbsps of chia seeds
  • Drop of vanilla
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Fruit of choice, chopped up.

this is how we do it

Mix the milk, chia and vanilla together and place in fridge 4 – 6 hrs or overnight.

Add the chopped fruit and cinnamon. Enjoy!


I’d say 90% of my range of motion has returned but there is still work to be done. The pain is still there although MUCH less and specific only to certain movements.

Healing takes time 🩷 and effort and I am putting forth both.
