Does Medical Tourism interest you?

Have you been looking into taking an Executive Medical or one of those full body scans?

Than you my friend are looking to make a change in your life and this check up just might help you do that!

A comprehensive medical check up can take from 1 – 3 days and can have you walking out the door with a folder of answered questions, including the ones you didn’t know you had.

Especially the ones you didn’t know you had.

Why would I pay out of pocket for a check up?

The one and done Medical Check Up’s value lies in the ability to get seat time with the surgeons and specialists that assess your test results.

I had a VIP Medical Check Up at Cevre Hospital in Turkey.

If this check up was a burger it would be The Works.

I got to speak to a cardiologist an internal specialist, general surgeon, optometrist, orthopaedic surgeon, gynaecologist and dietician specifically about my results.

By results I mean from an EKG, Lung X-ray, Neck and Torso ultrasound, Internal exam, Stool/ Urine and Blood samples.

IN ONE DAY.

These are the things that get me excited.

What’s this cost?

The cost of 1,200 euros also excited me since the cost of an executive medical in Toronto will run you $5,000 with a wait time of 3 months.

I did not have any pressing issues that were concerning me so this may seem like overkill, or was it?

It’s all about the baseline

The main reason for this check up for me was to get a baseline.

You see there’s a lot of dedication that goes into the things I do (and don’t do) to maintain and improve overall health.

I’ve narrowed things down now to the point where it felt like a specialized, qualified confirmation was required to validate these efforts as I am not a Doctor.

Questions about things like this…

Are these supplements actually being absorbed by my body or do I just have expensive urine?

Am I supporting my liver/ kidney and heart health appropriately?

Do I have a dormant cancer gene waiting to pounce?

How’s the thyroid doing?

Sourcing all these answers using the standard healthcare system in Canada would become a full time job.

Waiting for appointments to become available.

Travel time going to different locations according to specialty.

All this if you can wrangle the required referrals to begin with.

And I don’t want to.

Healthcare is for the sick

I know that the sick take priority in our healthcare system.

There is no avenue or project that encourages people to stay healthy and avoid getting on the wheel of meds I see common for so many.

So, if for no other reason, getting a baseline for everything is the goal.

And that’s exactly what I got at my medical check up.

I’m trying my best to figure it out

Let me preface that with the fact that I am in my 50’s now and take no medication whatsoever.

This should not be an anomaly but it is unfortunately.

This is partly due to:

Staying current with all the health initiatives and break throughs through good old fashioned research.

Eating my medicine. Thanks to a genuine interest in how food has the ability to heal and help you thrive added on to my training at the Academy of Culinary Nutrition.

It’s playing offence instead of defense

The issues that were found, to me, make complete sense. I know where I’m weak and why.

The findings

Slightly fatty liver.

Eating out. That’s the issue. When I eat at home I am super aware of what I’m eating and how it affects me overall.

When I travel or eat out I indulge.

Bring me the wings, onion rings and deep fried pickles.

Right here to my face please.

Not a mystery or a surprise. I deserve that little jiggle liver.

Lazy eye

Always had one and pretty sure it’s gonna cause me some issues as I get older.

Weight Loss

See fatty liver above but also add in menopausal which adds a fun new layer onto anything women do after 50.

At the time of this post I have not received the results for the 3 cancer markers so…we’ll have to wait on that.

Here’s the thing, I now have a plan of attack on what to address to optimize MY health.

Forgetful advice I never forgot

When I was just turning 30 I had someone tell me this:

30 eh? That’s when everything starts going down hill health wise. It’s just the way it is, you can’t fight it.

Emotions hearing this went from open mouth shock to anger. How could this person really believe this!

It’s like an inevitable, so don’t bother trying.

Then I realized this person has been handed down this line generationally and it made me feel sad for them.

A life lived abusing your body with alcohol and processed food, devoid of any exercise excused with a blanket statement to make you feel better.

It’s not your fault.

But it is.

I never allowed this attitude to sneak into my life.

No one should.

Every breath I take, every pain free move I make

I appreciate every easy step I take that can be done without thinking about it.

Swinging my granddaughter around with a big hug that doesn’t tweak or punish me later.

Walking up stairs not getting winded.

Do I want to live forever?

Nope.

Do I want be as independent and mobile I can be while I’m here?

You bet.

Better health is attainable for anyone. Not super complicated or exhaustive. The thing is you have to seek it out yourself.

Be that through functional medicine, nutritionist or just plain curiosity.

This Medical Check up is proof that my efforts are working!

It would mean a lot to hear from you in the comments.
